The tender tamarind leaves (chinta chiguru) are mostly found during early spring.

This tender tamarind dal recipe is an excellent and yummy dish. The sourness of tender tamarind leaves when combined with the dal gives a mouth watering flavor. It is very easy to prepare and very tasty to eat. Let us try this excellent recipe at home and experience  the delicious taste of it.

Chinta chiguru  – 1 cup
Moong dal  – ½ cup
Green chillis   – 5 (slit length-wise)
Turmeric   – a pinch
Salt    – to taste

Mustard seeds  – ½ Tea Spoon
Cumin seeds   – 1 Tea Spoon
Garlic pods  – 6
Dry red chillis   – 2
Curry leaves   – few

1. Remove the tender tamarind leaves from the stalk
2. Wash and soak the Moong dal, add turmeric and green chillis to it and took till half cooked.
3. Add the tender tamarind leaves to the cooked dal, cover and cook on low heat till the dal is fully cooked
4. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chillis, garlic pods and curry leaves to it. Fry till they splutter
5. Add this tampering to the cooked dal
6. Mix and cook for few more minutes by adding salt
7. Turn off the flame and serve with hot steamed rice along with papads and vadiyalu
