Salt    – to taste
Hing    – a pinch
Turmeric   – a pinch

Mustard seeds  – ½ Tea Spoon
Cumin seeds  – ½ Tea Spoon
Oil   – 1 Tea Spoon

1. Take a couple of tomatoes and chop them in to pieces and blend them as puree.
2. Pour this into a sauce pan and start the heating process
3. Add 1 1/2 tsp of rasam powder, hing, salt to taste and a pinch of turmeric.
4. Mix well and boil for about 5-8 minutes or until the raw smell of tomatoes go away.
5. Before you start the rasam process, cook Toor dal – about 1/2 cup in a pressure cooker and keep aside
6. Add some water and keep boiling the rasam.
7. Mash up the Toor dal in the blender and then add that in here.
8. Let this cook for about 5-7 minutes again.
9.  If the rasam gets too thick, add water a little at a time
10. Meanwhile, chop up about 1 cup of pineapple pieces and blend to a smooth juice
11. Also, save a few pieces separately to add to the rasam later
12. Now when the dal has cooked nicely, add the pineapple juice in there and let it cook again for a few minutes. You can cook until the whole thing thickens.
13. As it boils, you can see the froth coming up
14. At that point, add about 1 tbsp of pineapple pieces. (Don’t add too much of the fruit).
15. Now, add enough water so that the rasam reaches the brim on top
16. In a small thadka pan, add a tsp of ghee and when hot, add mustard seeds to splutter. And then add fresh curry leaves and one red chilli. Add on top the rasam.
17. Now the tasty pineapple rasam is ready to serve.
