ULAVA/Kulith/ Kollu payiru CHARU


Ulava Charu is an effective remedy for colds and coughs. Learn how to make/ prepare Ulava Charu by following this easy recipe INGREDIENTS: Horse gram (in Telugu Ulavalu) – 250 Grams Green chillies – 1 Red chilli – 1 Onions – 2 Cumin seed – 1 Table Spoon Pepper – 1 Tea Spoon Garlic – 5-6 pods Ginger – 1/2 inch Coriander seed – 1 Table Spoon Tamarind Extract (diluted) – 1/4 cup Mustard seeds – 1 tsp Curry leaves – 1spring Coriander leaves – 1spring Salt – to taste Oil and Water – as needed PROCESS: 1. Soak Horse gram over night and pressure cook till soft. 2. Chop the onion. 3. Drain the water and keep it aside for later use (Water’s color will be in chocolate color). 4. Dry roast Red chili, Cumin seed, pepper, Coriander seed and grind to fine paste. 5. Smash ginger and garlic. 6. Smash half of horse gram. 7. In a pan heat oil and put mustard seed. 8. Put curry leaves, Onion,

smashed Ginger and Garlic, Green chili. 9. Add smashed horse gram and mix well. 10. Pour tamarind extract add salt. 11. Add sufficient water and make sure the gravy is not too thick. 12. Put remaining horse gram. 13. Sprinkle finely chopped coriander leaves over the gravy. 14. Remove from flame. 15. Serve with Chapatti or steamed rice.
