ULLI KARAM/Onion Stuffing


Spicy onion chutney can be used to prepare many curries in which onion plays the major role to give excess flavor to the curry. Vankaya Ulli karam, Dondakaya Ulli karam etc. are some curries which come under this category. Let us try this spicy onion chutney recipe now.

Onions   – 2 big
Red chillis  – 6
Tamarind  – small lemon sized
Black gram  – 1 Tea Spoon
Cumin seeds  – 1 Tea Spoon
Coriander seeds- 1 Tea Spoon
Oil   – 1 Table Spoon
Salt   – to taste

1. Heat oil in a pan, fry red chillis, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, black gram and grind in to a fine powder by adding tamarind to it
2. Add salt and onions to it and grind. The onion pieces should not be grinded much
3. You can use this Ulli karam in so many curries.
4. You can also store it in refrigerator  for 3-4 days and use
5. It gives good taste with dosas also
